Cole Campbell played a big role in Elversberg’s maiden appearance in the Bundesliga as his goal helped them to a win over Malik Tillman and Bayer Leverkusen.
Elversberg 3-2 Bayer Leverkusen
Elversberg earned their first points of the Bundesliga as they put in a great performance in their win over Bayer Leverkusen at the Waldstadion Kaiserlinde.
Cole Campbell started and played 65 minutes for the Black and White, taking three shots on goal and completing 88 percent of his passes. Malik Tillman played 65 minutes for Leverkusen, completing 87 percent passing and winning five duels.
It did not take the hosts long to open the scoring, as they grabbed their first of the day eight minutes in. Campbell doubled the lead seconds later when a poor pass saw the winger make the interception, sprint towards the 18-yard box and fire his shot past goalkeeper Mark Flekken.
Elversberg extended its lead just at the start of the second half when David Mokwa Ntusu was on the spot to steer a low cross into the back of the net.
Leverkusen cut the deficit with two goals, but Elversberg did enough to hold them off.
Elversberg will head away to take on Borussia Monchengladbach, while Leverkusen plays their home opener against Union Berlin on Wednesday.
