Newly promoted English Premier League side Coventry City will get their season underway on Friday, but they will be without Haji Wright, as the forward has suffered a serious quad injury that will sideline him for up to three months.
The team’s manager, Frank Lampard, provided an update on the status of the 28-year-old, who has been missing from preseason games against Espanyol and Monaco.
“He won’t be available for a little while, he’s got a very serious quad injury which is disappointing for Haji and for us,” Lampard said. “It’s certainly going to be a number of weeks, could even be up to 12 weeks.”
Wright joined Coventry in August 2023 on a four-year contract when they were in the EFL Championship. He was the team’s top scorer in the season with 19 goals in all competitions. In the 2024-2025 season, he followed through with 17 league goals that helped the Sky Blues to win the league and earn promotion to the Premier League.
Coventry will face reigning Premier League champions Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Friday.
