Weekend English Recap: Richards, Palace Suffer Defeat, Aaronson and Leeds Bow out of FA Cup

Chris Richards went the distance for Crystal Palace in their defeat to Liverpool, while Brenden Aaronson and Leeds lost in the FA Cup semifinal.

Liverpool 3 – 1 Crystal Palace

Chris Richards started and went the distance for Crystal Palace in their heavy away defeat at Anfield.

Alexander Isak started the scoring in the 35th minute as Richards switched off after making an initial great headed clearance. Palace nearly scored, but Liverpool countered quickly, and Andy Robertson doubled the lead in the 40th minute. 

Daniel Munoz got one back for Palace in the 71st minute to make the game interesting. The goal was marked with controversy as Liverpool’s goalkeeper went down with an injury, but Munoz scored anyway. However, Florian Wirtz scored in the sixth minute of added time to secure all three points.

Palace sits in 13th place and travels to Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday before facing Bournemouth on Sunday in the Premier League.

Chelsea 1 – 0 Leeds United 

Brenden Aaronson started and went 86 minutes for Leeds, who fell narrowly at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea to be knocked out of the FA Cup in the Semi-Final.

Aaronson had a brilliant chance created by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, only to be thwarted by the Chelsea goalkeeper.

Enzo Fernandez scored the game’s only goal with a brilliant back-post header. Both teams had several chances, but the lone goal was enough to send Chelsea to the Final.

Leeds turn their attention back to the Premier League, where they sit in 15th place, six points above the relegation zone. Up next is a Friday match against Burnley.

Tyler Adams and Bournemouth had the weekend off.

Antonee Robinson played the final nine minutes for Fulham in their 1-0 win over Aston Villa.
