Belgian Recap: A Bad Weekend for the Yanks

1 minute, 51 seconds Read

Bryan Reynolds and Griffin Yow came away with no points over the weekend while Marlon Fossey and Standard managed to secure a point in weekend Belgian action.

Standard Liege 1 – 1 Leuven

Les Rouches took a one goal lead in the first half but were unable to hold onto it as Leuven fought back with a very late equalizer, thus denying Standard three valuable points. Marlon Fossey went the distance on the right flank.

Former Fulham and Wales National Team boss Chris Coleman just took over the Flemish team and was pleased with earning a point his first time out.

After a couple of good chances where the net should have rippled, Andi Zeqiri finally found the back of the net in the 45th minute with the help of a deflection from OHL’s defender, Ilay Camara.

In the 94th minute the visitor’s stole a goal and a point with a strike that should have been a foul and a free kick for les Rouches. Ibe Hautekiet was knocked over in his own box by Ezechiel Banzuzi, but the referee saw nothing wrong and the immediate pass to defender Federico Ricca saw the Uruguayan scored his first of the season.

Now a point out of the top six, Fossey and company will head to Beerschot on Wednesday night.

Dender 1 – 0 Westerlo

Both Bryan Reynolds and Griffin Yow started for Westerlo who have now lost three games in a row. Against Dender, it was by a solitary goal that came in the 39th minute from Nathan Rodes. It was also the new boys, Dender’s first win in two months.

The American duo will next go up against USG.

Notes

Devon De Corte played for a dozen minutes as the Anderlecht Futures were beaten by Club Brugge II by a 3-0 score line.

Keyden Pierre went the distance for Genk II and picked up a yellow card as they lost 2-1 to RAAL La Louviere.
