Johnny Cardoso could make Spain’s La Liga his next home as reports have surfaced that Real Betis have agreed to a deal to sign the midfielder from Brazilian side Internacional.

According to Spanish sports website Relevo on Wednesday (in Spanish), Betis is looking to sign the 22-year-old permanently ahead of the 2024-2025 Spanish season. If the deal goes through the transfer could be in the region of four to five million euros, one report stated, while another has said it could be six million euros. Internacional is also expected to receive a 20-percent cut from any future transfer.

If everything works out, Cardoso will sign a five-year contract with the Andalusian side and join them after the end of Brazil’s Serie A season.

The New Jersey-born midfielder worked his way through Internacional’s youth academy to become an important member of the first team. He would make his professional debut for the team in September 2019 in a 3-1 win over Atletic Minero. This season, he has played in 46 games in all competitions, scoring two goals.

Cardoso also played an integral part in the team’s run in the Copa Libertadores as they reached the semifinals before being knocked out by fellow Brazilian side Fluminense.

Betis is currently in ninth place in the La Liga standings with 14 points.
