The United States Under-17 men’s youth national team has put together a squad of 21 players as head coach Gonzalo Segares revealed his picks on Wednesday ahead of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Indonesia.
“After a two-year journey, we’ve put together a deep, versatile squad and we’re excited for them to take on the world’s best in Indonesia,” Segares said in a statement. “Representing the United States on the global stage is a massive honor and we’re ready to give our all. Our group opponents will be challenging, but they will provide exactly the high-level, competitive experience you want at a World Cup. I’m proud of how far this team has come throughout the cycle, developing from teenagers to young men, and I can’t wait to get started.”
The Americans will take a strong group to Asia as 13 players have made their return to the team following their second-place finish at the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship in Guatemala.
The team will begin tournament play on Nov. 12 with their first Group E game against South Korea. Three days later they take on Burkina Faso and wrap it on Nov. when they square off against France. All three group stage games will be played at the 82,000-seat Jakarta International Stadium in the Indonesian capital.
