0 minutes, 46 seconds Read

The United States men’s national team will get some serious competition ahead of the World Cup as it was announced on Friday that the 2024 Copa America will be played on U.S. soil.

The country’s designation as host came as Ecuador backed out of holding the tournament due to security concerns.

According to details of the organization of the tournament, six teams from CONCACAF will be included along with the 10 national teams from South America. The six guest teams will earn their spots based on their performances in the next edition of the CONCACAF Nations League.

In addition to the men’s tournament, both federations agreed to include four South American women’s teams in a CONCACAF tournament and the creation of a new club competition.

The announcement of the tournament being held in the U.S. comes at a time when the federation is looking to fill roles at sporting director, men’s head coach, and general manager.
