AFC Bournemouth has reported a major blow to their starting line-up with their American international Tyler Adams set to miss about three months, which is a crucial blow, especially during the busy festive season. The 23-year-old New Yorker, who spent time at few seasons at RB Leipzig before heading to England, was substituted off after only five-minutes in Bournemouth’s 4-4 thriller at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
The American has suffered a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury. Head coach Andoni Iraola spoke about the injury during his recent pre-game press conference. The Cherries’ boss says that the loss of Adams is a “big blow” to the team.
“Tyler is injured and has torn his MCL, so he will definitely be out for some time. From our previous experience with MCL injuries, it is normally around two or three months,” the Spaniard told the press.
“It’s a big blow because he is an important player for us. Straight away, when you see the mechanism of the injury and the action itself, we felt it could be something serious.”
Adams missed the 1-1 draw against Burnley on Saturday afternoon, and will be sorely missed, especially with four further games coming thick and fast over the 12-day holiday period where they’ll be hanging out in London for the next two games, against Brentford and Chelsea before hosting norther Londoners, Arsenal and then Tottenham.
“Tyler is very valuable for us and very unique in what he does,” Iraola continued. “We do have options – Alex has been playing there and Lewis Cook is in his natural position there – but it’s true that Tyler is difficult to replace.”
