Jordan Pefok continued his goal-scoring ways for Young Boys as the soon-to-be dethroned champions were defeated by the champions-elect FC Zurich.

FC Zurich 2-1 Young Boys

FC Zurich put their stamp on claiming the Swiss Super League title this season as they beat Young Boys at Stadion Letzigrund.

Jordan Pefok went the distance, completing 71 percent of his passes and winning five duels along with two shots.

Retaining the crown has been well out of reach for Young Boys, but they still have a battle to secure a spot in the Europa Conference League as they sit in third place, a point ahead of their nearest challengers Lugano.

Zurich opened the scoring in the 33rd minute Antonio Marchesano played a through ball to Assan Ceesay, who beat Young Boys’ goalkeeper David von Ballmoos with a shot to the far post.

The hosts were in a clear advantage throughout the game and they went on to double their lead in the 61st minute. Another failed attempt by Young Boys to put pressure on their opponent’s goal saw them launch a counter-attack, with Ceesay finishing it off with his second strike on the day.

There was still a lot of time left in the game when Pefok gave Young Boys a lifeline in the 73rd minute. The striker and Ulisses Garcia combined on a one-two pass that ended up with Pefok putting his deflected shot into the back of the net.

Despite cutting the lead, Zurich did enough to hold on for the win.

Young Boys remains in third place in the standings with 47 points.

Note

Down in the Challenge League, Lucas Pos and Stade Lausanne-Ouchy were easily handled by Wil in a 3-0 defeat.
