Oguchi Onyewu has been chosen to aid in the search for the new head coach of the team he represented 69 times, after being named “Vice President of Sporting” within the US Soccer organization.
Yanks Abroad caught up with Oguchi Onyewu this past weekend when his Royal Excelsior Virton team played in Mouscron in Belgium. Having retired from the game in 2018 after a 15-year career, Onyewu recently took up the post as Virton’s secretary general. The former US international fielded questions from fans ranging from his playing career to the future of the USMNT.
Considered to be one of the USMNT’s best ever central defenders, Oguchi Onyewu played for the Nats 69 times where he won two Gold Cups and represented the USA in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.
Belgian second division team Royal Excelsior Virton has just announced that former United States international Oguchi Onyewu has joined the team as their new secretary-general.
