Premier League action saw Brenden Aaronson face off against Tyler Adams, and bragging rights went to Adams this weekend, while Chris Richards had a long afternoon in North London. Antonee Robinson, meanwhile, helped Fulham leave Villa Park with a point.
AFC Bournemouth 2 – 0 Leeds United
Tyler Adams started and went the full 90 as Bournemouth made it three Premier League wins in a row with a 2-0 victory over Leeds United. Leeds thought they had taken the lead in the 11th minute through Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but the goal was ruled out for handball. Bournemouth made them pay in the 31st minute when Evanilson finished off a Justin Kluivert assist to put the Cherries ahead.
Brenden Aaronson entered for Harry Wilson in the 84th minute with Leeds still chasing an equalizer, but Bournemouth put the match away deep into stoppage time. Amine Adli scored in the 90+4th minute to make it 2-0. Adams also picked up a yellow card in the 74th minute. Bournemouth climb to seventh in the Premier League, while Leeds sit 11th.
The Cherries travel to Sparta Praha in the Europa League on Thursday before heading to Ipswich Town on Sunday. Leeds host Tottenham Hotspur next Saturday.
Aston Villa 1 – 1 Fulham
Antonee Robinson started at left back and went the full 90 as Fulham picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa. Villa had a chance to take the lead in the 16th minute, but John McGinn smashed his penalty off the crossbar. Nicolas Jackson eventually broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, working his way through the Fulham defense before finishing past Bernd Leno.
Fulham came out much stronger after the break, with Robinson nearly helping create the equalizer just three minutes into the second half. The breakthrough finally came in the 64th minute when Zion Suzuki mishandled Alex Iwobi’s corner and carried the ball over his own line. Robinson and Fulham saw out the draw to move to 15th in the Premier League. They host Newcastle United next Saturday.
Tottenham Hotspur 2 – 0 Crystal Palace
Chris Richards started and went the full 90 as Crystal Palace fell 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur. Palace were put in a hole almost immediately when Jean-Philippe Mateta was sent off in the 13th minute for a studs-up challenge on Micky van de Ven. Spurs took advantage in the 25th minute when Archie Gray was left alone at the back post and headed home from a corner.
Palace managed to keep the match within reach for most of the afternoon despite playing down a man, but Jan Paul van Hecke eventually doubled the lead in the 73rd minute after his initial header came back off the crossbar. Richards played all 90 as Palace suffered their third straight Premier League loss and slipped into the relegation zone in 18th place.
The Eagles host Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday before Liverpool visit Selhurst Park next Sunday.
Notes
Haji Wright remained out of the Coventry City squad for Saturday’s 3-1 win over Sunderland, but there was finally some encouraging news this week. Wright has returned to the practice field for light individual work as he continues to recover from the quad injury that has kept him out all season. Frank Lampard has previously said November is the earliest realistic return.
Zavier Gozo did not make Crystal Palace’s matchday squad against Tottenham Hotspur.
Gabriel Slonina did not make Chelsea’s matchday squad for Saturday’s 2-0 win over Manchester United.
