Lindsey Heaps, Lily Yohannes, and Korbin Shrader were in action for OL Lyonnes for a chance to claim the UEFA Women’s Champions League title, but they came up short in the end as they lost to Barcelona at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, Norway, on Saturday.
Barcelona 4-0 OL Lyonnes
A determined Lyonnes came out to exact revenge on Barcelona, but the Catalan side powered through the second half to cruise to a shutout win and lift the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Lindsey Heaps, who played in her final European game, started and played the full 90 for the French champions, completing 81 percent passing, winning five duels, and making five recoveries. Lily Yohannes also started for the team in 72 minutes of action, while Korbin Shrader played the final 18 minutes.
In a rematch of the final in May 2024, in which Barcelona came away 2-0 winners, the eight-time champions were looking to add another crown to their historic achievements.
Lyonnes came out aggressively in the first half and thought they were rewarded with a goal in the 14th minute. Wendie Renard’s header from a free kick forced Barcelona goalkeeper Cata Coll to make a diving save, but Heaps was on the spot to pounce on the loose ball and put it in the back of the net.
Celebrations were stopped at the end as the goal was ruled out due to the video assistant referee calling an offside after review.
After a flustering first half, Barcelona took complete control of the game.
The deadlock was broken in the 55th minute when Ewa Pajor ran onto a pass from Patri Guijarro to slot it home. The Polish international added a second 14 minutes later as she tapped in a low cross from Salma Paralluelo.
Paralluelo put the game to bed as she bagged two goals in the 90th and 93rd minutes respectively.
A disappointing result for the French side, but they and the American trio will return to action on Friday when they face Paris FC to determine the winners of the Premiere Ligue.
