Malik Tillman was the top man for Bayer Leverkusen over the weekend as his goal helped them to a comfortable win over Wolfsburg.
Wolfsburg 1-3 Bayer Leverkusen
Three first-half goals were more than enough as Bayer Leverkusen dominated their hosts, Wolfsburg, to take all the points at Volkswagen Arena.
Malik Tillman had a strong outing in his 64 minutes for the Factory XI, completing 92 percent of his passes, winning two duels, and putting one shot on target.
The visitors opened the scoring nine minutes into the contest when some teamwork from Ernest Poku and Alejandro Grimaldo on the left side brought on a pass to Tillman. The ball did not meet the attacking midfielder, but it did make contact with Jonas Hofmann, as he stuck the ball in the bottom corner of the goal.
Leverkusen doubled their lead in the 24th minute when Wolfburg’s failure to clear a corner kick allowed Aleix Garcia to cross the ball back into the area for Edmond Tapsoba to deliver a thumping header into the back of the net.
Tillman extended his team’s lead in the 33rd minute thanks in part to an excellent through ball from Patrick Schick. That left the 23-year-old on a run ahead of the Wolfsburg backline, as he struck his third goal of the season.
Wolfsburg pulled one back in the 57th minute through Denis Vavro, as he headed in a Maximilian Arnold corner kick. However, their fight back was not enough as Leverkusen held on for the win.
Bayer sits in third place in the standings with 23 points.
