The Premier League opened over the weekend, with Brenden Aaronson helping Leeds grab all three points, while Chris Richards, Tyler Adams, and Antonee Robinson all suffered defeats with their respective clubs.
Nottingham Forest 0 – 1 Leeds United
Brenden Aaronson started and went 81 minutes for Leeds United as they opened the Premier League season with a late win over Nottingham Forest.
The American was active in the Leeds attack and had an opportunity of his own, putting his lone shot on target, but the two teams remained scoreless throughout his time on the field.
Just six minutes after Aaronson was replaced by Sean Longstaff, Anton Stach provided the moment of magic. The German midfielder struck a brilliant free kick in the 88th minute to give Leeds the lead and all three points at the City Ground.
It was the perfect start to the new campaign for Leeds, who return home next weekend to take on Brentford.
Everton 2 – 0 Crystal Palace
Chris Richards went the distance for Crystal Palace as they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Everton.
Palace had several chances to get themselves on the scoresheet early, twice hitting the post, but it was Everton who finally broke the deadlock through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall before halftime.
Things got worse for Richards and the Palace defense shortly after the break. Iliman Ndiaye delivered a dangerous cross into the box, where Thierno Barry got behind Richards and headed home from close range to double Everton’s advantage.
Palace couldn’t find a way back into the game as they opened the new Premier League season without a point.
Manchester City 2 – 1 Bournemouth
Tyler Adams came off the bench in the 76th minute as Bournemouth watched a late lead disappear in a heartbreaking loss to Manchester City.
Marcus Tavernier put the visitors ahead in the 26th minute, and Bournemouth carried the advantage deep into the second half.
Adams entered for Lewis Cook with just under 15 minutes remaining as Bournemouth looked to close out the win, but City finally broke through in the 85th minute when Marc Guéhi headed home the equalizer.
The hosts weren’t finished. Joško Gvardiol scored in stoppage time, with the goal surviving a VAR review, to complete the comeback and leave Bournemouth empty-handed after coming within minutes of an impressive opening-day win at the Etihad.
Fulham 2 – 3 Chelsea
Antonee Robinson started and went 81 minutes for Fulham as they came up just short against Chelsea in a five-goal London derby.
Fulham found themselves behind almost immediately, with João Pedro scoring just 31 seconds into the game. Josh King brought the Cottagers level in the 23rd minute before Morgan Rogers restored Chelsea’s advantage just before halftime.
Cole Palmer made it 3-1 shortly after the restart, but Fulham responded quickly through Gonzalo García to keep themselves in the game.
Robinson nearly provided the equalizer late on. The American made a run behind the Chelsea defense and found himself with a chance to lob goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, but his effort went wide.
Fulham couldn’t find another opportunity before the final whistle as they opened their Premier League campaign with a narrow defeat at Craven Cottage.
