English Premier League Recap: Adams and Richards start on Opening Day

1 minute, 48 seconds Read

Tyler Adams and Chris Richards both started the opening day of the Premier League, but neither Yank was able to walk out with all three points.

Liverpool 4 – 2 Bournemouth

Tyler Adams was on hand to witness a heartfelt moment as Premier League stadiums across the country honored the life of Diogo Jota who tragically passed away this summer.

Adams was able to get the start against last year’s Champions, and played 90+ minutes before being subbed in stoppage time. Hugo Ekitike opened the scoring in the 37th minute, followed by a Cody Gakpo goal in the 49th minute. Antoine Semenyo had a sensational double in the 64th and 76th minute to bring the score level.

However, Federico Chiesa went on to score the game winner after coming on as an 82nd minute substitute, scoring six minutes later. Mo Salah scored the final goal in the game after four minutes of stoppage time to put the game to bed.

The game was marred by a situation between Semenyo and a fan, where the fan was accused of racially abusing the Bournemouth player. The match resumed, and Liverpool were triumphant on the opening day.

Teenager Matai Akinmboni did not suit up for Bournemouth who face off against Wolves next weekend.

Chelsea 0 – 0 Crystal Palace

Chris Richards started and went the distance for Crystal Palace who will feel hard done by in their narrow draw away from home to Chelsea.

Want-away talent Eberechi Eze smashed a free kick home early in the first half, only to be disallowed after a VAR check. Palace Captain Marc Guehi was seen to have impeded on the Chelsea wall, overturning the goal decision.

Palace welcome Norwegian club Fredrikstad to London in a UEFA Conference League Qualifying game on Thursday. Chelsea goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina did not suit up for the home side.

Notes:
Antonee Robinson is out with a knee injury for Fulham who tied 1-1 to Brighton on opening day. Teenage goalkeeper Julian Eyestone did not suit up for Brentford who lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest. Luca Koleosho did not feature for Burnley. Brenden Aaronson will hope to start for Leeds United in their Monday fixture against Everton.
