U.S. Olympic men’s soccer team head coach Marko Mitrovic unveiled his 18-player roster and four alternates on Monday for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.
According to a release from U.S. Soccer, fifteen of the 18 players selected have been capped by the senior men’s national team.
Among the three overage players on the roster, Miles Robinson and Walker Zimmerman fill the roles at central defense. Meanwhile, Djordje Mihailovic takes up the third and final spot in the group of midfielders.
As for the Under-23 players, both Tanner Tessmann and Gianluca Busio, who played huge roles in Venezia earning promotion to Italy’s Serie A for next season, have booked their spots on the team. In addition, new FC Utrecht teammates Paxten Aaronson and Taylor Booth will team up with Griffin Yow, Kevin Paredes, and Duncan McGuire in the attack.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have this group of great players and great people represent us at the Olympic Games,” Mitrovic said in a statement. “It’s a special moment for all of us as they have worked their entire lives to reach this stage. Almost every player developed through our American soccer pathway, rising to become professionals and now they will live their dreams of competing at the Olympics. We’re grateful to the clubs that released their players in support of our mission. Our goal is to make our country proud and we will give everything for the United States.”
The Americans will get the ball rolling in Marseille on July 24, two days before the Opening Ceremony, against host France. They will then face New Zealand on July 27 in Marseille and wrap up group play against Guinea on July 30.
The team will be based in Bordeaux from July 9-20 before moving to Marseille.
