Johnny Cardoso will now take his talents to Spain as La Liga side Real Betis announced the signing of the midfielder from Brazilian team Internacional.

The 22-year-old signed the deal on Wednesday which will see him stay with the team through the 2028-2029 season after a reported transfer fee of 6.3 million dollars was agreed between the two teams. Internacional will also receive 20 percent from any future Cardoso transfer.

The New Jersey-born midfielder moved back to his parents’ native Brazil at a very young age and went through a couple of youth teams before arriving at Internacional. He would make his debut for the first team on September 15, 2019, in their 3-1 win over Atletico Mineiro.

In the just concluded Serie A season, Cardoso made 46 appearances in all competitions for The Reds, scoring two goals. He also played an important role in the team reaching the semifinals of this year’s Copa Libertadores.

Cardoso will have his work cut out for him with Los Verdiblancos as they have a stacked midfield. He will be competing for playing time with the likes of Andres Guardado, Marc Roca, and William Carvalho. The team currently sits in seventh place in the standings with 28 points.

Real Betis will return to action in the New Year when they face Celta Vigo in league action on January 3.
