Joe Scally and Borussia Monchengladbach moved themselves into the Bundesliga’s top ten as they were able to slip past Hoffenheim for the win.

Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 Hoffenheim

The Foals found the game-winning goal ten minutes from time to help them to a narrow victory over Hoffenheim at Borussia Park to lift them into the top ten of the Bundesliga standings.

Joe Scally started and went the distance for ‘Gladbach, completing 82 percent of his passes, winning four duels, and making one tackle. On the other side, John Brooks had a spot on the bench for Hoffenheim as Pellegrino Matarazzo decided to go with other players in his back three.

The first half saw the visitors with the advantage as they had several chances to open the scoring. However, they could not make the breakthrough as both teams head to their respective dressing rooms with the game still scoreless.

The second half would see the hosts get the chance to break the deadlock when the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty following Ozan Kabak’s challenge on Alassane Plea in the 18-yard box. The Frenchman dusted himself and converted the penalty in the 58th minute.

Hoffenheim leveled the score just seconds later with a deserved goal. After some trickery on the left wing by Marius Bulter, he passed the ball on to Umut Tohumcu who crossed into the area for Wout Weghorst to head on goal. ‘Gladbach goalkeeper got a hand on the ball, but he ended up deflecting it into his own goal.

However, the hosts would have the last word in the game in the 80th minute when some good build-up play saw Luca Netz send a low cross to a wide-open Nathan Ngoumou to tap home from close range.

The win moves Borussia Monchengladbach up to 10th place in the standings, while Hoffenheim remains sixth with 20 points.
