Auston Trusty has secured a fresh start away from Arsenal, after the London club agreed to terms with Sheffield United for a permanent transfer.
The 24 year old spent the entire 2022-23 season in the Championship on loan from the Emirates, appearing 44 times in the for Birmingham City. The American was able to contribute four goals and two assists in his nearly 4,000 minutes played.
While the Blues were never in contention for promotion to the English top flight, finishing 17th in the 24-team division, Trusty’s move to the Blades will still give the twice-capped USMNT defender at least one season in the Premier League.
Sheffield United, who earned automatic promotion out of the Championship last year by finishing second, will look to continue to add strength on their return to the Premier League after a two-season absence.
Trusty will look to continue his development and fight for minutes, if not the starting job for the newly promoted side. He was one of Birmingham’s most steady defenders in the previous season, and overall one of the better center backs in the division.
According to reports, Arsenal will be paid a fee in excess of $6 million for the signing, a tidy profit on a player they acquired for closer to $2 million from the Colorado Rapids two years ago.
United begin their new season on Saturday August 12, when Crystal Palace visit Bramall Lane, a game which could see Trusty pitted against fellow USMNT center back Chris Richards.
