After Rangers FC was shocked on the road by Belgian Pro League team Union Saint-Gilloise in the first leg of their Champions League third-round qualifier, head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst was in a somber mood at the post-game press conference. The former Dutch international was however happy to address Yanks Abroad regarding his new loanee, Malik Tillman.

“He’s an amazing talent,” the former Arsenal and Barcelona defender said. “He had a lot of involvement last season with Bayern Munich (although) he’s still very young.”

Tillman, who was signed by the German champions as a youngster back in 2015, saw limited action with the first team after impressing in the reserves last season. Van Bronckhorst saw the American’s potential and signed him on loan this summer.

“His level is very high, so I’m really happy that he joined us this year and hopefully longer.” The Dutch coach continued, “I think that Malik is a very exciting talent and I really like working with him. We need to improve him as well as a player, but he has all the chances to do that with us.”

“I think you can see (last) Saturday (against Livingston) and today what he has (to offer), so we keep pushing him through (in order) to become a better player every day.”

Tillman will hope to be in the starting line-up again on Saturday afternoon when Rangers host Kilmarnock. They will then host USG three days later and try to overturn their two-goal first-leg deficit.
