What seemed highly unlikely a few months ago now appears to be in the final stage as it has been reported that Leeds United is close to finalizing a deal with Red Bull Salzburg to sign midfielder Brenden Aaronson.

According to a report, both sides have agreed to a $30 million transfer. The deal was finally given the green light after Leeds secured its Premier League status for next season following a 2-1 win over Brentford on Sunday.

Leeds’ interest in the American goes back to the winter transfer window when they were looking to bring in reinforcements in their battle to avoid the relegation zone. However, as Salzburg was still competing in the Champions League, no deal could be reached.

The Philadelphia Union will also benefit from the transfer as they are expected to receive up to $6 million through a sell-on fee.

Since moving to Austria back in January 2021, the 21-year-old has been on an upward trajectory. In 66 games in all competitions, he has scored 13 goals as he helped Salzburg to two league titles and Austrian Cups.

Aaronson will join Jesse Marsch ahead of the next Premier League season as they hope to improve the team and avoid another relegation scrap.
