Report: Barcelona has sights set on Christian Pulisic

Christian Pulisic has had a difficult time at Chelsea the past few months, but that could all change in January as it appears that Spanish La Liga side Barcelona has listed him as one of their targets when the winter transfer window opens.

It has been a rough period for the Catalans as they saw legendary forward Lionel Messi leave in the summer, reports of the club in mounting debt, and Ronald Koeman fired following a lackluster run of games that included a demoralizing defeat to their rivals Real Madrid last month.

However, with the appointment of former Barcelona midfielder Xavi as head coach, there appears to be a silver lining in the dark cloud that has been hanging over the Camp Nou. Now, the club is setting its sights on bringing in a few players to help them in their push back up the standings.

According to one report, the 23-year-old is just one of the many names on Xavi’s wishlist alongside teammates Callum Hudson-Odoi and Hakim Ziyech. Raheem Sterling of Manchester City is also on the list, but his huge contract could be a sticking point to signing him, which is why Barcelona is looking at Chelsea.

In another report from Sports Illustrated, Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has allegedly given the green light for Pulisic to make the move to Spain as there are several players ahead of him, which would make it hard for him to see any significant action. The article indicates that the German coach wants to sell the winger, but with Barcelona strapped for cash, a loan would be the only option.

Pulisic started the English Premier League season positively as he scored a goal in their win over Crystal Palace. However, the injury bug would hit him once again as he went down with an ankle injury while on international duty for the United States.

As the Hershey, Pennsylvania native tried to recover from yet another injury, the Blues carried on and now sit atop of the league standings and qualified for the next round of the Champions League.

This is not the first time for reports to surface that clubs have inquired about Pulisic. Last week, rumors circulated that Andriy Shevchenko expressed interest in bringing him to Serie A where the Ukrainian has been appointed as head coach of Genoa.
