It was a good weekend for Yanks in England as Zack Steffen earned his first start for City in the Premier League while Antonee Robinson and Duane Holmes added goals to their accounts.
Manchester City 2 – 0 Burnley
Zack Steffen was given the start for Manchester City as their first choice keeper was rested after international duty.
City got on the front foot in the 12th minute after Bernardo Silva latched on to a spilled ball from the Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope who couldn’t handle a Phil Phoden shot from distance.
Burnley could have found an equalizer from Maxwel Cornet who was one-on-one with Steffen, but the American goalkeeper was quick off his line to snuff out the shot. City was on the front foot despite the intense pressure from Burnley and eventually got the second goal from Kevin de Bruyne on a defensive missed clearance.
City travel to Club Brugge in their next game in the Champions League.
Norwich 0 – 0 Brighton
Josh Sargent had two golden chances for Norwich as the Canaries eyed up their first Premier League win.
Thirteen minutes in Sargent had an incredible turn and shot that missed narrowly wide, but it wasn’t meant to be. In the 47th minute Sargent was played in for a one-on-one opportunity only to be foiled by a Brighton defender. Teemu Pukki also had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper but hit the side netting.
Sargent was substituted in the 76th minute, and will hope to get the start against Chelsea in their next Premier League game.
Fulham 4 – 1 Queens Park Rangers
Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson were on fire for Fulham in their London derby win over Queens Park Rangers.
The Cottagers lost by the same scoreline last time out, but all was forgotten just 10 minutes in as Aleksander Mitrovic scored a wonderful goal to get Fulham on the front foot. QPR gambled with the half-time substitution of Lyndon Dykes, which proved to be spot on as he scored the equalizer in the 55th minute.
The winning scoreline for Fulham was restored through Mitrovic’s 67th minute goal, before Bobby Decordova-Reid added cushion in the 71st minute. As if that wasn’t enough, Robinson was allowed all the time and space in the world to dribbling straight to the edge of the box to get a shot off that deflected past the QPR goalkeeper.
Fulham are now in third and look to improve on their winning ways with a home game against Cardiff.
Huddersfield Town 2 – 0 Hull City
Duane Holmes went the distance for Huddersfield Town and scored to help secure the home win over Hull City.
Huddersfield Town saw themselves start on the front foot with a Tom Lees ninth minute goal. The home team had plenty of chances with Holmes missing a curling free kick before scoring a beautiful curling effort in the 73rd minute.
Holmes will hope to continue his goal scoring form on Wednesday against Birmingham.
