Cappis Scores Game Winner for Brøndby

Former FC Dallas player Chistian Cappis became the hero of the night when reigning Danish champions Brøndby beat bottom-of-the-table Vejle on Sunday.

The Texan is slowly getting closer to the starting line-up after a series of appearances where his impact has been noticed.

Brøndby have been struggling in the opening third of this season, having traded their most influential player Jesper Lindstrøm to German Bundesliga hopefuls Eintracht Frankfurt.

Before Sunday’s fixture the Boys in Blue and Yellow were in a disappointing position, fighting to secure their place in the championship playoffs.

Although backed by 18,000 enthusiastic fans, Brøndby failed to capitalize on their home advantage in the first half. With an hour played, Vejle went up 2-1, and it was time for Cappis to come on to the pitch in the 63rd minute, replacing Norwegian Sigurd Rosted.

The last ten minutes were hectic at Brøndby Stadium. First the home team equalized courtesy of Mikael Uhre in the 82nd minute.  Three mintues later Cappis made the home crowd explode with pent-up jubilation when he fired off a rocket from outside the penalty area. His shot peeled off the paint of the post and found its way into the back of the net. Cappis subsequently found himself at the bottom of eleven celebrating Brøndby players in a pile of relief and exultation. On this evening he was definitely the most popular American in town.

Brøndby go into next week with a boost of confidence, which might be needed: they will face Scottish legendries Glasgow Rangers away in the Europa League on Thursday, and arch-rivals FC Copenhagen at home on Sunday.
