English Premier League Recap: Three Starts and Zero Wins

2 minutes, 32 seconds Read

Three out of four USMNT Premier League regulars played this weekend. All of them started; however, zero wins between them. Brenden Aaronson will hope to rectify that record on Monday as Leeds take on Newcastle.

Bournemouth 2 – 2 Brentford

Tyler Adams started in midfield as Bournemouth let another winning position slip in a 2-2 draw with Brentford. Kevin Schade put the visitors ahead in the 34th minute before Justin Kluivert equalized just four minutes later. The two sides traded quick-fire goals in the second half, as Marcus Tavernier later gave Bournemouth a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute. Schade, however, struck again after a Bournemouth mistake to make it 2-2 just four minutes later.

Adams nearly produced a late winner, forcing Caoimhin Kelleher into a strong save as Bournemouth pushed for all three points. Adams went 82 minutes for the home side, but a final goal was not in the cards despite a late push. The Cherries are still looking for their first Premier League win of the season and host Liverpool next Sunday.

Crystal Palace 2 – 3 Ipswich Town

Chris Richards started for Crystal Palace in a chaotic 3-2 loss to Ipswich Town. Palace took the lead through Anan Khalaili in the 14th minute, but Ipswich equalized through Emersonn in the 23rd minute. Drama arose when Axel Disasi was sent off in the 34th minute, forcing Palace to play with 10 men for the rest of the match. Leif Davis put Ipswich ahead in the 45th minute, before Jørgen Strand Larsen pulled 10-man Palace level in the 75th minute.

It wasn’t to be for Palace, as Zian Flemming scored the winner in the closing minutes.

Richards remained at the heart of a Palace back line forced to play most of the match a man down. Zavier Gozo was named among the Palace substitutes and came on in the 84th minute. Palace travel to Leeds United next Sunday.

Notes

Haji Wright remained out of the Coventry City squad as the Sky Blues were hammered 5-0 at home by Brighton & Hove Albion. Coventry are now 0-4 in their Premier League return and, somehow, still haven’t scored a league goal. Wright continues to recover from the quad injury that has kept him out since August.

Brenden Aaronson rounds out Matchweek 4 for the Americans, with Leeds United hosting Newcastle United on Monday at 2:00 PM Central.

Gabriel Slonina did not make the game-day squad for Chelsea, who drew 2-2 to Hull City.
