There will be a clash between two World Cup champions, as the United States women’s national team will play in a pair of friendlies against Spain in October, U.S. Soccer announced on Monday.
The teams are scheduled to play at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 10, followed by another game on Oct. 13 at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania. The world’s top two teams will use the games as preparation for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
“Two more fantastic matches,” said head coach Emma Hayes. “We’ve desperately wanted to get Spain on our schedule, but the difficulties of scheduling the top teams during the women’s international calendar are well known, so to be able to get these two games on the East Coast will be the perfect tests before we head into World Cup qualifying at the end of the year.”
The U.S. and Spain have played four games against each other – the Americans won three, while the other claimed one.
