Pulisic and AC came out on top in Milano, while Weston McKennie and Juventus also celebrated victory in Serie A action.

AC Milano 1 – 0 Inter Milano

The Serie A title is still up for grabs after AC narrowly defeated Inter in Italy’s biggest derby, the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday night at the San Siro. Christian Pulisic went the distance for the Rossoneri as they kept themselves in touching distance with their city rivals.

Just a few minutes into the game Inter’s Swiss keeper, Yann Sommer foolishly gave the ball to Pulisic. The American picked out Luka Modric but from 20 yards out, the Croatian sent the ball just a whisker wide of the post. And that was to be the team’s only shout at goal inside the first half hour of the game. Inter, however, was just as unimpressive, as they managed only a couple of efforts, both by Federico Dimarco and neither breaching the goal line.

Former Arsenal man, Henrikh Mkhitaryan sparked his side into action when he charged into the AC defense and hit the ball well but too close to Mike Maignan, who made the save. It was a wake-up call for the hosts, and they charged down the other end of the field where Youssouf Fofana played the ball through to Pervis Estupinan. The Ecuadorian made no mistake and belted the ball into the roof of Sommer’s net. A couple more half chances came but no more net breaching was committed in the first 45.

Both sides left everything on the field in the second half, with action at both ends but by the time the referee blew the final whistle and all 22 players had left everything on the field, it was AC Milano who gathered up all the points.

The win also gives AC the league double this season, the first time they have accomplished this feat since the 2010/2011 season. It was also Inter’s first loss since November when they lost to, you guessed it, AC Milano.

Up next for the second place team will be a trip to Rome to take on 11th place Lazio.

Notes

It was a goal fest for Juventus as they put four past Pisa on the night with four different goal scorers. Weston McKennie played the full 90 for the Old Lady as they held onto sixth place. Up next will be a trip north to take on Udinese.

Yunus Musah played the first half for Atalanta as they drew this game against Udinese, 2-2. Up next they head to Milano to take on Inter.

Benjamin Cremaschi played the full 90 minutes in Parma’s scoreless draw away to Fiorentina. They’ll travel to Torino over the weekend.
