The PSG express continues to not only roll on but pick up steam as they shut out their closest title challengers in the Eredivisie.
PSV 3 – 0 Feyenoord
In one of the Eredivisie’s fiercest rivalries, the Farmers of Eindhoven made easy work over the Rotterdammers on Sunday afternoon in front of their home fans at the Philips Stadion. Sergino Dest went the distance, but Ricardo Pepi missed out, still recovering from a forearm injury.
The scoring got underway after only 10 minutes when Joey Veerman delivered his free kick just from the right of the box and watched defender Armando Obispo got his head to it from close range, milliseconds before the keeper was about to punch it out of harm’s way.
Three minutes later Guus Til got in on the action and also scored from inside the six-yard box when a chip from the right that Timon Wellenreuther got fingertips to was not helpful at all, only setting up the Dutch striker and allowing him to double the lead from close range.
A frustrated coach Robin van Persie’s day only became worse minutes later. Dest and his teammates were making quick, crisp passes in the final third, but when a Feyenoord defender kept the ball from going behind for a corner, a lazy pass allowed Paul Wanner to steal it, pass across the mouth of the goal and set up Ismael Saibari for the sucker punch. After just 17 minutes and three goals, the game was put to bed as the visitors could do nothing about it.
The reigning Dutch champions look to be on track to repeat the feat, although there are still 13 games to be played but a 17 points lead over second place Feyenoord suggests that it’s only a matter of time. Up next will be an away day against eighth place Groningen.
