French Recap: Weah Scores in Dominant Marseille Win

Tim Weah was among the goals for Marseille as they gave a thumping to Angers, while Tanner Tessmann and Lyon secured three points in the latest round of action in Ligue 1.

Angers 2-5 Marseille

Marseille kept its chase of Paris Saint-Germain and Lens going as they put a pounding on Angers at Stade Raymond-Kopa.

Tim Weah started and went the distance for OM, completing 83 percent passing, winning three duels, making a key pass, and taking two shots.

The visitors opened the scoring 19 minutes into the contest when Amine Gouiri put away a cross from teammate Michael Murillo. Mason Greenwood doubled their lead five minutes later after he linked up with Emerson to put the ball into the back of the net.

Hamed Traore made it 3-0 in the 34th minute when he ran onto a pass from Emerson to fire his shot past Angers goalkeeper Herve Koffi. The hosts pourous defending allowed another in the 40th minute when Weah was in the 18-yard box to head in a cross from Traore.

Angers pulled one back in stoppage time through Amine Sbai, but the pain of Marseille’s first half was already a lot to take in.

Igor Paixao scored one more for OM in the 88th minute when the Brazilian tucked in a shot after a pass from Pierre Hojbjerg, while Jim Allevinah grabbed Angers second.

Marseille sits in third place in the standings with 35 points.

Lyon 2-1 Brest

Lyon moved up to fourth place in the standings as it was able to hold on for a narrow win over 10-man Brest at Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

Tanner Tessmann was in the starting eleven to play 74 minutes for Les Gones, completing 84 percent passing, winning three duels, making three recoveries, and taking three shots.

The hosts received an advantage after 19 minutes into the game when the referee gave a red card to Brest’s Romain del Castillo for a rough tackle on Nicolas Tagliafico.

Pavel Sulc made their opponents pay in the 41st minute as Lyon’s counterattack saw Afonso Moreira play the ball to the Czech midfielder, who scored the goal from a very acute angle.

Abner Vinicius doubled the team’s lead five minutes later when Endrick teed the Brazilian defender up for a strike from distance.

Brest was able to cut the deficit in the 87th minute when Junior Dina Ebimbe recovered the ball in a scramble to score.

Lyon now has 33 points to put themselves in fourth position.

Folarin Balogun started for Monaco as it was hit hard in a 3-1 defeat to Lorient.
