Dutch Recap: Dest’s PSV Wins Again

Sergino Dest and PSV remain undefeated early in the Eredivisie season while the Booth boys both taste defeat over the weekend.

Twente 0 – 2 PSV

It was another victory for the Dutch champions on the road against Twente. Sergino Dest went the distance in his usual right back spot but as expected, Ricardo Pepi did not make the game day team sheet. On the other side of the field, Taylor Booth started up front for the hosts and put in a 63-minute shift.

The game started off quickly and within the first few minutes, the seventh actually, the Farmers took the lead thanks to Max Bruns putting the ball past his own goalkeeper. The mistake was created by Dest when he charged up the right flank and sent in a sweet cross. Bruns latched onto it but all he could do with it was put it into his own net.

To be fair to the Reds however, they held their own against the Netherlands best team, sharing possession, 50-50 and out-shooting them 18 to 15 but just could not find the back of the net. And although the OG was enough to claim the points, Jerdy Schouten added another shortly after the restart.

With six points out of six, the Farmers will host Groningen on Saturday night.

Excelsior 1 – 2 Feyenoord

Zach Booth started on the left for Excelsior when they hosted their cross-town rivals and Robin van Persie’s Feyenoord side on Saturday evening. The newcomers to the league put in a half decent performance and even scored very early in the game however they were unable to hold onto their lead and by the time half time arrived they were losing.

In their first game back in the Eredivisie, they were shut out and humiliated by NEC Nijmegen by a 5-0 score, but this time were able to bounce back from that disappointment and when Quinten Timber lost the ball around his 18-yard box, Derensili Sanches Fernandes made him pay for his blunder with a shot that wrong-footed the Feynoord keeper.

As the game was expected to turn out in favor of Feyenoord, who have the dubious honor of being Rotterdam’s best team, they tied the game up when Japanese international, Ayase Ueda scored his second of the season in the 22nd minute. A dozen minutes later, Sem Steijn hit the eventual game winner, leaving the newcomers winless after two games.

Sunday will be a trip to Utrecht where their first points and who knows, their first victory could be celebrated.

Notes:

Deron Payne went the distance for Zwolle as they came away with a 2-2 result against AZ Alkmaar. The point leaves them with just two points after two games. Next up is a trip to take on Telstar, who have yet to record a point.
