Haji Wright and Coventry City booked themselves for a promotion playoff spot, while Ethan Horvath maybe looking to play elsewhere this summer as Cardiff City made their way to League One as the Championship season came to a close over the weekend.
Aston Villa 1 – 0 Fulham
Antonee Robinson was back in the starting XI, but the captaincy was with Bernd Leno.
Youri Tielemans scored in the 12th minute with a header from a John McGinn corner kick.
Fulham thought they had equalized from Sessegnon, but he was adjudged to have handled the ball in the build-up. Villa had the majority of the chances, so ultimately, the home fans will feel like this was a fair result.
Up next for Fulham is a home match-up against Everton.
Arsenal 1 – 2 Bournemouth
Tyler Adams went the distance for Bournemouth in their historic comeback win away at Arsenal.
Declan Rice opened the scoring in the 34th minute after a well-timed run.
Antoine Semenyo sent a rocket of a throw-in toward Bournemouth teammate Dean Huijsen whose header looped in at the back post.
Evanilson bundled home the game winner in the 75th minute after a Marcus Tavernier header caused havoc after a corner kick.
Next up for Bournemouth, a home visit from Aston Villa.
Plymouth Argyle 1 – 2 Leeds United
Brenden Aaronson went 79 minutes for Leeds, which had to come from behind to end the season with a win away from home.
Sam Byram scored an 18th-minute own goal, and it wasn’t until the 53rd minute that Wilfried Gnonto leveled the game. Manor Solomon scored the game winner in the 1st minute of added time at the end of the match.
The victory crowned them outright winners of the Championship, equalling Burnley’s impressive 100-point season, but ahead in the tie breakers.
Coventry City 2 – 0 Middlesbrough
Haji Wright started and went the distance for Coventry City over Aidan Morris and Middlesbrough.
The game was the last of the season for Morris, as the two sides going head to head were after the same prize, a Championship Playoff Position. Win and in scenario. The other headline was the manager in either dugout, Frank Lampard managing the home side while Michael Carrick managed the away side.
In the end, it was Jack Rudoni who bagged a brace to see Wright triumph over his compatriot. That means a home and away fixture against Sunderland starts on Friday.
Norwich City 4 – 2 Cardiff City
Josh Sargent started and went the distance for Norwich City against Ethan Horvath and Cardiff City.
Marcelino Nunez scored in the 13th and 17th minutes, where in between, Callum Chambers was shown a straight red card.
Nunez notched an assist in the 23rd minute to Borja Sainz, putting the game out of reach for the visitors. Shane Duffy added an insurance goal in the 67th minute, in between the visitors finally getting on the scoreboard through Yousef Salech in the 56th and 84th minutes.
Norwich finished the season in Thirteenth place. Cardiff are relegated to League One.
West Bromwich Albion 5 – 3 Luton Town
Daryl Dike was on the score sheet for West Bromwich Albion in their final match in an eight-goal thriller.
The loss bumped Luton Town into the relegation zone, meaning they’ll have dropped from the Premier League to League One within two seasons. Tom Fellows opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Millenic Alli scored just two minutes later.
Dike notched his goal in the 30th minute before turning provider for Fellows. Callum Styles scored two in the 57th and 61st minutes to make it five.
Jordan Clark notched one back for the visitors, and Alli added his second on the night.
West Brom finished the season in 9th place.
Derby County 0 – 0 Stoke City
Lynden Gooch went the distance for Stoke City, which drew goalless to end the season in 18th place.
League One
Jeremy Kelly went 64 minutes for Crawley in a 2-1 win over Shrewsbury, but ultimately ended the season one point adrift of safety and has been relegated to League Two. Donovan Pines did not make the bench for Barnsley in their 4-2 win over Reading. Nick Akoto remains out of the squad for Burton Albion, while Charlie Kelman notched an assist in Leyton’s 4-1 win over Huddersfield, securing a playoff berth for a home and away against Stockport.
