Matt Turner watched from the bench as Chris Richards played against Tyler Adams, with both Americans picking up yellow cards. That, and more, in this weekends edition of the English Weekend Recap.
Fulham 1 – 2 Chelsea
Antonee Robinson captained Fulham at home in the West London Derby as Chelsea made the long trip to Craven Cottage.
Alex Iwobi opened the scoring in the 20th minute, and heading into the last quarter of the game, it looked like the home side were going to get all three points. Chelsea had other ideas though, with Tyrique George equalizing in the 83rd minute, and Pedro Neto scoring in the third minute of added time.
Fulham sit comfortably in ninth place, and travel to Southampton next weekend.
Crystal Palace 0 – 0 Bournemouth
Chris Richards faced off against Tyler Adams’ Bournemouth, but Richards will want to quickly forget this match up.
The Palace centre back picked up a soft yellow in the 29th minute after “stopping” an attack with a slight touch. Just on the stroke of half time, Richards picked up his second yellow card of the night and was shown his marching orders by the center referee.
Adams also picked up a first half yellow card, but was subbed off in the 61st minute. Compatriot Matt Turner was on the bench for Palace, and was the only American in either line up to not pick up a yellow card.
Palace are in 12th and face off against Arsenal, while Bournemouth are in eighth and face off against Manchester United.
Oxford United 0 – 1 Leeds United
Brenden Aaronson started and was subbed off in the final seconds of Leeds United’s win over Oxford United on the road.
Jayden Bogle assisted Manor Solomon in the 33rd minute for the games only goal. The win puts Leeds on top of the Championship, ahead of Burnley on goal difference.
It’s a quick turn around for Leeds who face off against Stoke on Monday.
Coventry City 2 – 0 West Bromwich Albion
Haji Wright nearly went the distance for Coventry City in their crucial win over West Bromwich Albion.
Daryl Dike was given the last quarter of an hour, but the visitors had been reduced to 10 men in the 51st minute.
Jack Rudoni opened the scoring in the sixth minute, while Matt Grimes put the game out of reach in the 48th minute.
Coventry City sit in sixth and face off against Plymouth, while West Brom are six points adrift sitting in eighth, taking on Derby on Monday.
Middlesbrough 2 -1 Plymouth Argyle
Aidan Morris went the distance for Middlesbrough who snatched all three points at home right at the death.
The teams traded early goals with a Finn Azaz 12th minute finish to put Boro ahead, while Plymouth retorted in the 17th minute through Mustapha Bundu.
The game turned on its head as J Edwardss was shown a 92nd minute red card, and Tommy Conway converted the ensuing penalty to win the game.
Boro sit in seventh place, three points off of the promotion playoffs. Next up is a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Monday.
Norwich City 3 – 5 Portsmouth
Josh Sargent opened the scoring for Norwich City, but it wasn’t enough to beat Portsmouth at home.
Sargent scored in the 21st minute, but was subbed off at half time for Jack Stacey, who scored in the 64th minute. Portsmouth already had four goals by that point, and added an extra goal in the 71st minute to make Norwich’s third goal inconsequential.
Norwich are sitting down in 13th, and turn around to play Millwall on Monday.
Sheffield United 2 – 0 Cardiff City
Ethan Horvath started between the sticks for Cardiff City but ultimately shipped two goals on the road.
Gustavor Hamer scored in the 33rd minute, while Ben Brereton notched a goal in the 87th minute.
Cardiff City sit in 23rd place, but not out of convention with only one point separating 21st place Derby County. Up next, Oxford United.
