English Weekend Recaps: Richards scores but City dominates Palace

2 minutes, 19 seconds Read

Chris Richards nodded in the second goal for Crystal Palace, but it wasn’t enough as City ran riot over Palace. That, and more, in the recaps below.

Bournemouth – Fulham

Tyler Adams and Antonee Robinson face off on Monday, April 14th.

Manchester City 5 – 2 Crystal Palace

Chris Richards thrusted the visitors into a first half lead, but Manchester City was too strong to keep at bay across 90 minutes.

Eberichi Eze opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Richards’ 21st minute headed goal.

After that, it was the City show. Kevin De Bruyne scored a sensational free kick in the 33rd minute before Omar Marmoush leveled the game. Mateo Kovacic (47’), James Mcatee (56’), and Nico O’Reilly (79’) added a flurry of second half goals to see off the visitors.

Matt Turner did not feature as a sub. Palace sit in 12th place, and travel to Newcastle on Wednesday.

Leeds United 2 – 1 Preston

Brenden Aaronson started and went 80 minutes in a convincing 2-1 win over Preston.

Manor Solomon got the scoring started in the fourth minute, but a Kaine Kesler goal from Preston levelled the matter. It only took until the 13th minute for Jayden Bogle to hit the game winner. Duane Holmes did not feature for PNE.

The win keeps Leeds in first place and they face Oxford United on Friday.

Millwall 1 – 0 Middlesbrough

Aidan Morris went the distance for Middlesbrough in a narrow defeat to Millwall on the road.

Camiel Neghli was a second half substitute and made an immediate impact as he got the lone goal in the 65th minute.

Boro, now eighth in the Championship, take on Plymouth on Friday.

Burnley 2 – 1 Norwich

Josh Sargent was a half time substitute to try to get something out of the game.

Burnley scored two first half goals, Hannibal Mejbri in the 14th and Jaidon Anthony in the 24th minute. Jack Stacey got one back for Norwich in the 76th, but it was too little too late.

Norwich, in 13th, take on Portsmouth on Friday.

Cardiff City 0 – 1 Stoke City

Ethan Horvath continued as the Cardiff number 1 but lost at home to Stoke City to a last minute Will Fish own goal. Lynden Gooch came on in the 84th minute, just before the goal.

Cardiff sit in 22nd, one point inside the relegation zone. Up next, a Friday trip to Sheffield United.

In League One, Jeremy Kelly went 90 minutes for Crawley (23rd place), while Donovan Pines has been benched for Barnsley. Nick Akoto has been benched for  Burton Albion, while Charlie Kelman played 79 minutes for Leyton Orient, scoring twice in a 3-1 win over Crawley Town.

Notes:
Coventry Haji Wright play Hull City on Monday, while Daryl Dike played the last few minutes for West Bromwich Albion.
