English Recap: Adams goes for 90 while Richards and Palace Run Riot at Selhurst Park

Chris Richards’ Palace side picked up a big three points, and so did Tyler Adams and Bournemouth in midweek Premier League action.

Crystal Palace 4 – 1 Aston Villa

Chris Richards started in the right back position for Palace as they made easy work of dismantling Aston Villa at Selhurst Park on Tuesday evening. Matt Turner, of course, never left the bench as he still waits to debut this season.

Ismaila Sarr got the scoring underway just before the half hour mark with his sixth of the season and the second of two on the night as he celebrated his birthday in style. Jacob Ramsey should have scored before then for Villa however, but the offside flag erased the Englishman’s celebration. The Sarr goal build-up started with Richards, who got a header on target but was denied by Emmi Martinez. The ball fell for Sarr who tucked it away.

It took until early in the second half before the Villans could get the equalizer. Ollie Watkins long ball picked out Morgan Rogers and the 22-year-old striker tucked it away. The lead lasted less than 10 minutes thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s go ahead goal in the 59th minute. Sarr’s second came in the 71st minute.

Although the game was all but over, Eddie Nketiah was brought on in place of Sarr and the former Arsenal man netted his first in a Palace shirt since joining in the summer.

The will be in FA Cup action over the weekend when they host Championship side Millwall.

Brighton 2 – 1 Bournemouth

Tyler Adams went the full 90 for Bournemouth but it was a losing effort as they fell to a late winner from Danny Welbeck. The Cherries however found themselves behind not too long after kick-off when the Albion keeper, Kepa, bought down Joao Pedro and the Brazilian front man converted from the spot.

Justin Kluivert scored Bournemouth’s only goal sandwiched between Brighton’s two.

Next up, Brighton will travel to the north to take on Newcastle United in FA Cup action.

Notes

Antonee Robinson was rested as Fulham travelled to Wolverhampton to take on the Wanderers. He did get onto the field in the 72nd minute and the Cottagers returned to London with three points thanks to goals from Ryan Sessegnon and Rodrigo Muniz. The game ended 2-1.

Up next for the Londoners is a trip to the north to take on Manchester United.
