St Louis native Eric McWoods continues living the dream, signing for Cliftonville FC in the NIFL (Northern Ireland Football League) Premiership, the nation’s top flight. The 29-year-old striker recently left second division Swedish side Sandvikens IF before joining the oldest football club in Ireland.
Yanks Abroad first spotted the winner of the Estonian Cup in that Baltic country back in 2019 while playing for JK Trans Narva. From there he moved to Hungary, Malta and then Jordan before his first stint in Ireland with Finn Harps.
Consisting of 12 teams, the league’s regular season runs until the end of March and then will go into play-offs to determine the champions of Northern Ireland. Cliftonville is currently in seventh place, just two points out of the top group and will next host Portadown for a Sunday matinee where McWoods should make his debut. The Reds are also in the quarter finals of the Irish Cup and will take on the Crusaders later in the month.
