Recently back from his summer Paris Olympics adventure, Griffin Yow returned to Westerlo’s starting line-up when KVC Westerlo travelled to Brussels to take on Anderlecht on Saturday night. His return only lasted the first half as the former DC United winger was pulled at halftime after picking up an injury.
In the 36th minute the visitors won a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Yow was slow to get up and had to receive treatment before the free kick was taken. While waiting to get back onto the field, the set piece was converted as the Gamecocks got back on level terms.
The Virginian was treated just before the 38th-minute goal but he told Yanks Abroad that, “[the injury] happened in the first 15 minutes. I tried to keep going but I just couldn’t go full anymore.”
The 21-year-old confirmed that the injury wasn’t to his knee but the quadricep. As to the amount of time he is expected to miss, Yow’s reply was, “I have no idea.” He will be further assessed by the team doctor back in Westerlo.
Although it seems questionable whether Yow be back this quickly, Westerlo, who moved up to fourth place on the night after drawing 2-2, will host Royal Antwerp next weekend at Het Kuipje.
