KRC Genk has announced that their American defender, Mark McKenzie played his last game for the club when he came on as a substitute against Club Brugge last weekend, helping them secure a 3-2 victory against the reigning Belgian champs, as he has transferred Toulouse FC in France.
The New Yorker signed on with the Belgian side in January 2021 from the Philadelphia Union and made an immediate impact, helping the Smurfs win the Belgian Cup that same year. Overall the fan favorite played 128 times for the team, including Europa League and European Conference League games.
McKenzie has been capped for the US National Team on 13 occasions with his first coming in February 2020 when he was substituted onto the field in a friendly game against Costa Rica. He was a part of the 2024 Copa America team but never played a minute in the tournament.
His new club Toulouse finished in 11th place last season in the French top flight. The American will now have the chance to go up against fellow countrymen Folarin Balogun who plays for AS Monaco and Emmanuel Sabbi of Le Havre AC.
Toulouse opens their new season at home on Sunday when they welcome FC Nantes to the Stadium de Toulouse. McKenzie will be hoping to make an impact with his new club from day one.
