Bryan Reynolds: Looking Forward to Putting on the Red, White and Blue Shirt in the Summer

2 minutes, 1 second Read

It’s been quite the season for Texan, Bryan Reynolds who plies his trade with KVC Westerlo in the Belgian Pro League. Promoted to the top flight just a couple of seasons ago, the defender signed a long term contract with the team and quickly established himself in the starting XI.

With the season winding down, just four more play-off games left for Westerlo, the right back in looking forward to a break but more so, looking forward to the summer where the USA will compete in both the Copa America and the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games. The Copa kicks off in the USA on June 21st, while the Olympics get underway July 26th in Paris.

“I’m looking forward to a call-up,” the seven-time capped USA international said.  “Any call up would be an honor and I’ll be ready for whichever one.”

When asked which competition he would prefer to take part in, he answered as expected – “both!”

“It’s possible to play in both.  I just saw that Sergino got injured.  So if I go (to the Copa), I don’t know if I’ll start but if I still get called up, I should with preparation, be ready for the Olympics as well.”

Being the premier competition in the Americas, Reynolds wasn’t too bothered about it being held outside of South America.

“Obviously being younger and watching this big tournament, and for that to be in the United States, it would be an awesome experience (to take part in it).”

With his contract running for three more seasons, it would seem highly unlikely that he would remain with the Belgian side for that much longer, instead looking to move onto a a bigger league with a bigger team.

“I’m not sure (if I’ll stay here after the summer). It depends on what comes in the summer. If nothing is good (offers) in the summer, then I’ll just stay here. I’m comfortable here.  I’ll just keep developing.  That’s all I can do at the moment.”

Westerlo will welcome Kehveh Zahiroleslam and his Sint Truiden side to Het Kuipje this evening. The Gamecocks sit in last place in the group, having failed to win any of their play-off games thus far. The Canaries, on the other hand, are in third place however 11 points behind top team Gent. They’ll close out their 2023-24 campaign against Gent on the 25th of May.
