French Recap: Sabbi Scores to Rescue a Point vs Lens

1 minute, 21 seconds Read

Emmanuel Sabbi helped Le Havre to a point, while Balogun came off the bench as Monaco secured victory.

Lens 1 – 1 Le Havre

After losing their last two Ligue 1 games, Le Havre had to get themselves back on track since they are now flirting with relegation back down to Ligue 2.  Up against a team fighting for a European place, the visitors were fortunate enough to win a late penalty that was converted by Emmanuel Sabbi.  The American was subbed off in the 90th minute.

Although Racing were the dominant team throughout most of the game, it took them until the 58th minute to find the back of the net when Przemyslaw Frankowski struck his shot from distance and placed it right in the center of the goal for the lead.

The Sky and Navy fought back and reaped their reward when Ruben Aguilar brought Sabbi down in the box.  The American did the honors and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Collecting the point, Le Havre now moves up to 14th place, on 28 points.  Nantes is just a place behind on the same points.  Next up they’ll take on Metz, who are in one of the relegation spots.

Notes

Folarin Balogun started on the bench for Monaco but made it onto the field in the 73rd minute.  Maghnes Akliouche scored the only goal of the game half way through the first half to secure the three points and third place for another weekend against Stade Rennes.

The weekend will see them take on Brest, who are in second place and just one point better off.
