Brenden Aaronson came off the bench to provide a much-needed spark for Union Berlin and scored the only goal of the game to take all three points against Pellegrino Matarazzo’s Hoffenheim.
Hoffenheim 0-1 Union Berlin
Both Hoffenheim and Union Berlin played with 10 men following back-to-back sending-offs, but Brenden Aaronson would be the hero for the capital side as his goal late in the second half secured them the win at PreZero Arena.
The Leeds United loanee would come on to play 24 minutes and change, completing 80 percent of his passes and making one key pass. On the other side, John Brooks was left on the bench as Hoffenheim have gone winless in their past six games.
The first would end scoreless but not before red cards were issued to players on both teams. Hoffenheim’s Stanley Nsoki would get his marching orders first in the fourth minute of stoppage time for elbowing Kevin Volland in the face. The visitors would then get a man sent off two minutes later when Volland headed for an early shower following his challenge on Andrej Kramaric.
The second half would see the hosts come out with a few good scoring chances. However, it would be Union that made it count when in the 84th minute Yorbe Vertessen collected the ball and dribbled into the left side of the 18-yard box, drawing away two defenders which left Aaronson completely unmarked to bury his shot in the back of the net.
After a slow start to the Bundesliga campaign, Union Berlin have pulled themselves up to 13th place in the standings with 24 points, while Hoffenheim have dropped to ninth with 27.
Wolfsburg 1-1 Borussia Dortmund
Goals in both halves saw Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund share the spoils at the Volkswagen Arena.
Kevin Paredes started and went the distance for the Wolves, completing 85 percent of his passes, winning six duels, making six tackles, making one key pass, and taking a shot.
BVB would open the scoring after eight minutes when Marcel Sabitzer sent the ball over the top to Marco Reus on the left side of the penalty area. The captain put a left-footed shot on target that Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels fumbled, allowing Niclas Fullkrug to tap in from close range.
However, the hosts would level the score in the 63rd minute when BVB failed to clear the ball from their end following a corner kick. Yannick Gerhardt would be on the spot in the six-yard box to outmuscle the other players to head the ball home.
Wolfsburg sits in 12th place in the standings with 24 points.
