The weekend was one to forget for Folarin Balogun and Monaco as he and the team looked off their game in a defeat to Lille.
Lille 2-0 Monaco
Monaco missed out on the chance to return to the top of the Ligue 1 standings as they had no answers in their defeat to Lille at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Folarin Balogun had a very rough outing for the Red and Whites as he was pulled after the first, failing to threaten the hosts’ goal.
The visitors looked totally off their game and it showed as Lille took the lead after 32 minutes. Edon Zhegrova whipped the ball into the 18-year box from the right side which found Ivan Cavaleiro at the goalkeeper’s far post to put a right-footed volley into the goal.
Lille doubled their lead 10 minutes later as Zhegrova was the provider again, this time playing the ball to Bafode Diakite in the area who fired his shot past Monaco netminder Philipp Kohn.
Monaco head coach Adi Hutter made adjustments at halftime as he brought off Balogun and his Japanese teammate Takumi Minamino, but it would be for naught as the Principality side was shut out on the night.
The loss leaves Monaco in third place in the standings with 20 points, two behind new league leaders Nice.
Note
Emmanuel Sabbi started and played 59 minutes for Le Havre as they played out a 0-0 draw with Metz. The team sits in 13th place with 11 points.
