English Recap: Robinson, Fulham Fight to Heroic Arsenal Draw

3 minutes, 22 seconds Read

It was a big weekend for Americans in the English top-flight, with Antonee Robinson and Matt Turner facing off against a pair of league giants with mixed outcomes, while Luca Koleosho also started for Burnley in a tough home loss.

Arsenal 2 – 2 Fulham

Antonee Robinson went the distance for Fulham who saw a man sent off in their impressive draw at Arsenal’s home ground.

Folarin Balgoun is still on the hunt for his new stomping grounds and did not suit up for Arsenal. Tim Ream is currently serving a suspension for a red card in Fulham’s last match.

It was Fulham who started on the front foot, scoring in the opening seconds of the match. Andreas Pereira picked off a poor back pass from Bukayo Saka and quickly shaped for a first-time finish past Aaron Ramsdale.

It took until the 70th minute for Arsenal to get back into the game through a Saka penalty kick. Two minutes later the home side took the lead through Eddie Nketiah after a sweeping move, taking advantage of a Fulham player being down in the box.

If losing the lead wasn’t enough pressure for Fulham, Calvin Ughelumba was shown his second yellow card of the day in the 83rd minute, and given his marching orders.

However, the visitors clawed their way back into the game through a Palhinha stunner in the 87th minute to earn a highly coveted point.

Fulham next suits up to play Tottenham on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup.

Manchester United 3 – 2 Nottingham Forest

Matt Turner couldn’t keep Manchester United at bay for 90 minutes, as 10-man Nottingham Forest fell narrowly short of the draw away from home.

Ethan Horvath was on the bench for Forest, while Alex Mighten did not feature for the visitors.

It was a dream start for Forest who scored two goals in the opening four minutes. Taiwo Awoniyi scored a break-neck counter-attack to slot past André Onana, while Willy Boly scored a free header off of a corner kick for the fast lead.

United began to march on, with Marcus Rashford finding Christian Eriksen in the box for a cheekily flicked finish in the 17th minute to get them back into the game.

It took Casemiro two clear chances to finally convert one, but his 52nd-minute goal got things leveled after a well-worked free kick.

Things went from bad to worse for Forest, with Joe Worrall being shown a straight red card for a foul on the edge of the area. Bruno Fenrandes then stepped up in the 76th minute to score a penalty kick to win the game.

Forest faces off Wednesday in the Carabao Cup against Burnley, a game that might see Horvath get a rare start for his primary team should Turner get a rest.

Burnley 1 – 3 Aston Villa

Teen phenom Luca Koleosho continues his starting role for Burnley, who were unable to hold out against Aston Villa at home.

Koleosho had some early moments, but Matty Cash got the scoring started in the eighth minute, with a breakneck back post run. Cash doubled the advantage in the 20th minute after some clever play down the right flank.

Lyle Foster got one back in the 47th minute, with a superb left-footed finish after a swivel. The fight would only last until the 61st minute when Moussa Diaby finished off from the top of the box.
