Eighteen year-old Luca Koleosho started for Burnley in their loss to a Zack Steffen-less Manchester City while Matt Turner started over the benched Ethan Horvath against his former club.
Arsenal 2 – 1 Nottingham Forest
Matt Turner suited up against his former team for his Nottingham Forest debut, a move which saw compatriot goalkeeper Ethan Horvath resigned to the number two position.
Alex Mighten did not feature for Forest, while striker Folarin Balogun did not make the game sheet for Arsenal as he seeks a move away from The Emirates. Turner had what you would consider a serviceable first game as Arsenal’s class shown through against the likes of Forest.
Eddie Nketiah got the scoring started in the 26th minute after Turner was called into a couple of saves, including an early one-on-one save. Bukayo Saka put the game out of reach in the 36th minute with a world-class left-footed finish that left the American goalkeeper stranded.
Former Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga came off the bench to provide a blistering assist to Taiwo Awoniyi who slotted past Aaron Ramsdale in the 82nd minute.
Next up for Nottingham Forest is Sheffield United, while Balogun will be looking for a move away to Arsenal before their next fixture.
Everton 0 – 1 Fulham
Antonee Robinson and Tim Ream started where they left off, going the distance for Fulham with a narrow road win against Everton.
Ream missed the tail end of last season with a broken wrist, which was evident with his black cast. The American had a few sloppy turnovers that led to Everton’s chances, but ultimately nothing materialized for the home side.
Everton thought they had one in the back of the net, but the referee whistled for a foul on the goalkeeper, much to manager Sean Dyche’s dismay.
Fulham eventually got the breakthrough from Bobby Decordova-Reid after a sweeping move from second-half substitute Aleksander Mitrovic. Reid was along at the back post for a tap-in to secure the three points. Up next for Fulham is Brentford.
Burnley 0 – 3 Manchester City
Zack Steffen did not feature for Manchester City but 18-year-old Luca Koleosho started and went 61 minutes for the hosts in the loss.
The American-born teenager is eligible to play for the United States, Italy, Canada and Nigeria. The winger, donning number 30, was involved in several promising attacks for Burnley but ultimately the class of Manchester City was too much for Burnley.
Erling Haaland scored twice in the first half with Rodri adding an insurance goal in the second half. It went from bad to worse as Anaas Zaroury was shown a straight red card in the closing stages of the game.
Up next for Burnley is a visit from Aston Villa.
Notes:
Chris Richards was on the bench for Crystal Palace in their 1-0 over Auston Trusty and Sheffield United, who was also an unused substitute.
