English Recap: Pulisic Misses From Inside Six While Holmes Scores

4 minutes, 3 seconds Read

Christian Pulisic will rue his missed chance unmarked inside the six yard box, while Duane Holmes scored the winner to down Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson’s Fulham.

Crystal Palace 0 – 1 Chelsea

Christian Pulisic went the distance in Chelsea’s narrow win over Crystal Palace, enough to keep them in third place in the Premier League.

The opening exchanges created several clear chances, the best falling to Pulisic in the opening 10 minutes as Hakim Ziyech’s cross took a little deflection on its way to the American who could not make a proper connection alone at the back post.

Ziyech thought he had scored in the 75th minute after a thunderous Romelu Lukaku shot was parried to him for a quick tap in, but he was adjudged to be offside. He would not be denied the ultimate game winner though in the 89th minute, a Marcos Alonso ball floated in to the back post was hit on the full volley by Ziyech, and past the Palace goalkeeper.

Pulisic and company welcome Lille on Tuesday in Champions League action, before Liverpool turn visitor on the weekend.

Liverpool 3 – 1 Norwich

Josh Sargent notched an assist against Liverpool, going 76 minutes in the game.

The game was extremely one sided as Liverpool barraged the Norwich goal, but it was the visitors that got the opening goal minutes into the second half. Sargent kept the ball alive at the top of the box before finding Milot Rashica, who’s shot was deflected past Liverpool goalkeeper Alison.

Liverpool were catapulted back to even terms through an incredible bicycle kick from Sadio Mane in the 64th minute after slack marking from Sargent to allow space for the build up. Anfield erupted minutes later as Alisson picked out Mo Salah running towards the edge of the Norwich penalty box, and the Egyptian scored his 150th goal for the club in the 67th minute to complete a quick turnaround.

The killer blow came in the 80th minute as Luis Diaz lifted the ball over Angus Gunn after being picked out by Jordan Henderson.

Norwich still stand in last place in the Premier League, five points from safety, and will look to get back to winning ways on Friday against Southampton.

Fulham 1 – 2 Huddersfield

Duane Holmes scored as Huddersfield’s form continues against League leaders Fulham, while Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson went the distance for the home team.

Holmes thought he unlocked the defense in the opening stages as his ball through to Sorba Thomas found the back of the net, but Thomas was adjudged to have been offside. Huddersfield eventually opened the scoring in the 31st minute through Danny Ward in a sweeping counter attack, as Ward thumped his shot past the Fulham keeper.

Holmes scored what would become the game winner in the 43rd minute as Fulham keeper Marek Rodak bundled over Thomas to earn Huddersfield a penalty kick. The American stepped up to smash home the penalty kick, hard and down the middle.

Robinson thought he had an assist on the books after his left footed cross found Aleksander Mitrovic in the box for a signature header, but the Huddersfield goalkeeper was equal to the challenge. The goal finally came for Fulham in the 81st minute as Neco William’s shot was picked up by Bobby Reid who thumped his shot to the far post and in.

Huddersfield soaked up a lot of late pressure to hold on for all three points. The win puts Huddersfield in fifth, while Fulham still have a six point gap at the top, albeit with a game in hand.

Fulham will look to bounce back against Peterboro, while Huddersfield take on Cardiff.
