Tyler Adams and RB Leipzig booked their spot in the quarterfinals of the German Cup with a win, while Chris Richards and Joe Scally saw their teams shockingly eliminated.

RB Leipzig 2-0 Hansa Rostock

RB Leipzig scored early and added an insurance goal late in the game to secure the win over 2. Bundesliga club Hansa Rostock at the Red Bull Arena.

Tyler Adams went the distance for die Roten, completing 94 percent of his passes and winning nine duels. Ryan Malone would enter the game at the start of the second half for Rostock, completing 81 percent of his passes.

The hosts opened the scoring after six minutes through some fine passing in the final third. Adams would send the ball to the right side for Lukas Klostermann to cross to an unmarked Yussuf Poulsen to head home.

Rostock tried to put up a challenge, but they were no match for their Bundesliga opponents despite the scoreline remaining unchanged for most of the game.

Leipzig would have to wait to score their second goal in the 82nd minute as they launched a counter-attack from the visitors’ end. Christian Nkunku had all the space in the world to dribble the ball towards the area before passing it to Dani Olmo to slot home.

The team will now wait for word of their next opponent as a new German Cup winner will be crowned following the elimination of Borussia Dortmund.

Notes

Chris Richards was on the field has Hoffenheim was thrashed in a 4-1 defeat to Freiburg.

Joe Scally played 67 minutes for Borussia Monchengladbach as they were knocked out of the cup in a humiliating 3-0 loss to second division Hannover.
