English Recap: Pulisic Almost Back-heels Chelsea to Victory in Disappointing Evening

1 minute, 32 seconds Read

It only took Christian Pulisic ten minutes to provide a highlight reel moment, but Chelsea couldn’t do enough to retake second place in the Premier League.

Chelsea 1 – 1 Everton

Christian Pulisic went the distance for Chelsea in their frustrating draw at home against Rafael Benitez’s Everton, as they continue to be looking up at top spot from below.

Pulisic almost scored the opener for the hosts in the 11th minute with a clever flick off of a Hakin Zayech cross, but the Everton goalkeeper was equal to the task to keep Chelsea off the board.

It took 20 shots for Chelsea before Mason Mount finally found the opener after Everton hit snooze in the 70th minute. Reece James found Mount on the outside run, and the goalscorer smashed his shot off the near post and into the net for the lead

It only took four minutes for Everton to ruin the Blues’ night and find an equalizer off of a freekick, as Chelsea’s once-impenetrable backline continues to be breached. The free kick was floated in to the back post where Jarrad Branthwaite was the only one to chase it down, and his outstretched foot was making contact with the ball the only thing needed to beat the Chelsea goalkeeper.

Pulisic will hope to retain his starting position for his third-place Chelsea who travel to Wolves on Sunday.
