Berhalter Announces Roster for Upcoming USMNT Qualifiers

Gregg Berhalter has decided on who will show up for camp in Austin, Texas as he prepares for the next phase of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers next month.

Twenty-seven players have been called up, although only 23 can be named to the final roster for the qualifiers that will start next Thursday against Jamaica.

Some players who missed out on the first round of games where the USA underperformed with draws against El Salvador and Canada, have been called back such as strikers  Paul Arriola and Gyasi Zardes.  Yunus Musah and Tim Weah, who both missed out due to injuries, are also back in the mix.

Probably the most noteworthy addition is Weston McKennie, who was shipped back to Italy before the three games were completed during the last break, for breaking team COVID protocol regulations.

Of the 27 called, 17 belong to clubs in Europe including thrice capped Luca de la Torre from Heracles in the Netherlands, and veteran of 67 caps, DeAndre Yedlin.  Eighteen players who took part in the first round have also returned.

Now tied for second place with Canada in the qualifying standings, the young Americans will go up against Jamaica in Austin on October 3rd, before jetting down to Panama City to take on the Panamanian team three days later.  It will then be a trip back to the USA where they will welcome Costa Rica to Columbus, Ohio on the 14th of the month.
