England Recap: Fulham lose first of the season

Antonee Robinson and Tim Ream couldn’t keep Blackpool at bay in Fulham’s first loss of this season in the Championship.

Blackpool 1 – 0 Fulham

Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson went the distance in Fulham’s first loss of the season away to Blackpool.

Blackpool scored the game winner through Josh Bowler in the 49th minute. Robinson almost provided an assist for Dennis Odoi to even the score, but Blackpool keeper Chris Maxwell ensured his team would take all three points.

The Cottagers have a short break before returning to action on Wednesday with a visit to Birmingham.

Stoke City 2 – 1 Huddersfield Town

Duane Holmes went 68 minutes for Huddersfield Town in their 2-1 away loss to Stoke City.

After a scoreless opening 45, Huddersfield scored straight away as the second half begun, with a 47th-minute goal by Harry Toffolo, but the lead was short lives as Stoke responded in the 50th minute through Jacob Brown.

Huddersfield tried to battle but Matty Pearson saw his deflected block end up in the back of his own net from Mario Vrancic’s cross.

Holmes and Huddersfield will be back in action on Tuesday evening with a visit to Blackpool.

Sunderland 2 – 1 Accrington Stanley

Lynden Gooch went 69 minutes for Sunderland in their home win against Accrington Stanley in League One action.

Teenager Daniel Niel was on-target to notch the first goal for Sunderland in the 15th minute, which came after a cleared Gooch cross. Niel got on to Elliot Embleton’s knock down of the loose ball to fire his team into the lead.

Michael Nottingham scored an equalizer later in the first half, but Sunderland were able to get the game winner through Carl Winchester in the 58th minute.

Gooch and Sunderland are back in action during the weekend, when they visit Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Notes:

Folarin Balogun did not feature for Arsenal, who won 1-0 at home against Josh Sargent’s Norwich City. Sargent missed out due to a hamstring injury, according to the club.

Christian Pulisic is still out injured and did not feature in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa. He is likely to miss up to 10 days according to various reports.

Zack Steffen did not feature (COVID) for Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Leicester City.

Matthew Olosunde did not feature for Preston North End in their 0-0 draw to Bristol City.

Ethan Horvath was the backup keeper for Nottingham Forest in their 2-1 home loss to Cardiff City.
