Haji Wright has found his goalscoring touch once again and it couldn’t have come at a better time as he bagged a hat-trick for Antalyaspor in their win over Rizespor in Turkey’s Super Lig.
Antalyaspor 3-2 Rizespor
Haji Wright’s stoppage-time spot-kick not only sealed his hat-trick but also proved to be the game-winner as Antalyaspor came away the victors in their match against Rizespor at the Antalya Stadium.
Wright played the full 90 and change for his time while on the other side Tyler Boyd, who has been quiet for some time, played 78 minutes for Rizespor.
It’s been a difficult time for the 23-year-old striker since leaving Schalke in 2019. However, he regained his confidence after a move to Denmark where he played a season at SonderjyskE, scoring 11 goals in the process. Now, a summer loan to the Turkish top-flight will test whether he could handle tougher opposition.
Wright opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Veysel Sari crossed the ball into the area, allowing the 6-3 striker an easy tap-in goal past Rizespor goalkeeper Gokhan Akkan. He then added a second tally in the 54th minute from the penalty spot.
Rizespor’s Damjan Djokovic leveled the score with two strikes in the 61st minute and in stoppage time.
However, Antalyaspor was given one more chance, and they got it when the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty. Wright showed no nerves and converted the spot-kick to give his team all three points in the end.
Antalyaspor sits in 11th place with four points after three games, while Rizespor is 18th with a single point.
