Three USMNT Premier League regulars saw the field this weekend in Tyler Adams, Brenden Aaronson, and Chris Richards. Only Richards came away with three points, as Palace picked up their first home league win of the season. That and more as the Premier League restarts after the extended international break.
Arsenal 2 – 1 Leeds United
Brenden Aaronson started on the bench as Leeds gave Arsenal everything they could handle at the Emirates. After a scoreless first half, James Justin put the visitors ahead in the 55th minute before Riccardo Calafiori pulled Arsenal level just seven minutes later. Bruno Guimarães completed the comeback in the 70th minute.
Aaronson entered one minute later in the 71st minute as Leeds pushed for an equalizer, but it wasn’t to be for the visitors. Leeds suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season and sit seventh in the table. They host Manchester United next Sunday.
Chelsea 5 – 1 AFC Bournemouth
Tyler Adams went the full 90 minutes in a rough afternoon for Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea were ahead almost immediately, with Jordan Henderson scoring in the second minute before Morgan Rogers doubled the advantage just one minute later. João Pedro made it 3-0 in the 46th minute before Evanilson pulled one back for Bournemouth in the 51st.
Any hopes of a comeback disappeared from there. João Pedro scored his second in the 67th minute before Henderson completed his own brace with a free kick in the 70th minute to finish off a 5-1 Chelsea win. Adams picked up a yellow card in the 62nd minute as Bournemouth remained winless through six Premier League matches. The Cherries sit 17th and host Sunderland next Sunday.
Crystal Palace 3 – 1 Nottingham Forest
Chris Richards started and went the full 90 as Crystal Palace came from behind to beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 at Selhurst Park. Forest struck first through Dan Ndoye in the third minute, but Palace turned the match around before halftime. Daichi Kamada equalized in the 41st minute before Jefferson Lerma’s header found its way in during first-half stoppage time.
Yéremy Pino gave Palace some breathing room in the 59th minute, and Richards nearly added a fourth himself with a header in stoppage time. Palace move up to 12th in the Premier League. They host Olympique Lyonnais in Europe during the week before traveling to Brighton next Sunday.
Notes:
Antonee Robinson missed Fulham’s 2-1 loss at Ipswich Town after picking up an ankle issue in training following his return from USMNT duty. Robinson had started each of Fulham’s first five Premier League matches before Saturday. Fulham remain winless and sit 20th in the table. They host Hull City next Saturday.
Zavier Gozo was not included in Crystal Palace’s matchday squad against Nottingham Forest.
Gabriel Slonina did not make Chelsea’s matchday squad against Bournemouth, with Mike Penders serving as the goalkeeper on the bench.
Haji Wright will not feature for Coventry City against Newcastle United on Monday. Frank Lampard confirmed the American striker will not return until November at the earliest as he continues to recover from the quad injury that has kept him out all season.
